Eponym
Our namesake
Long live Virginia Woolf.
One’s Own Theatre LTD. is the namesake of a beautiful Virginia Woolf feminist short essay, “A Room of One’s Own” where she surmises that a woman must have time, money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction. Nearly a hundred years later this still rings so true.
Born in 1882, Virginia Woolf was an acclaimed modernist author. A novelist, essayist, thinker and speaker - she was a true visionary. She helped to pioneer the use of stream of consciousness narration as a literary device.
the height of her popularity was during the interwar period of the 20th Century. Her work resonated again with a new generation of readers during the feminist movement of the 1970s. Woolf remains one of the most influential authors of the 21st century.
In the spirit of Woolf we hope to also changes our audience's lives. One room at a time. One story at a time. May we forever change and be changed by the lives of the women with whom we co-create.

That we change the lives of our audiences- on room at a time.
The sacred exchange that happens in the liminal space between the stage and the audience.
The beautiful collaborative experience of co-creating with actors, directors, musicians and crew.
It is magic. I want to share that magic with you.
I want to create opportunities for women to work together in the Okanagan.
To cultivate a sense of sisterhood.
To stand in celebration and solidarity with the other incredible theatre companies that exist in our region. Because more theatre,
